Hospital Network Changes to Know About
A plan being sold in your county doesn’t mean your hospital is in it. These are the changes each side has published for 2027.
| Health system | What changed | Who says so |
|---|---|---|
| Providence | Out of network for UnitedHealthcare’s individual Medicare Advantage, group retiree, and chronic special needs plans starting January 1, 2027 | UnitedHealthcare, updated October 5, 2026 |

Kaiser Permanente works differently from the rest: you get your care from Kaiser’s own doctors and facilities, with limited coverage when you travel outside its service area.
Networks can change through the end of the year. Confirm with the plan and your doctor’s office before you enroll.
If Your Plan Is Ending
You have more time and more rights than a normal year gives you.
- ✓Open Enrollment, October 15 to December 7: choose a new plan and it starts January 1.
- ✓A special window, December 8 through the end of February: for people whose plan isn’t renewed.
- ✓Medicare Supplement guaranteed issue: if your Medicare Advantage plan ends in your area and you move to Original Medicare, Oregon’s rules let you buy a Supplement without health questions for a limited time.
Your plan’s notice tells you whether you were moved to another plan or need to choose one. The Providence guide walks through the deadlines and Supplement rights in detail, and they apply to other ending plans too.
Special Needs Plans
Some Oregon insurers offer only special needs plans for 2027: AgeRight Advantage, AllCare Advantage, CareOregon Advantage, Samaritan Advantage, and SCAN. These plans are for people who qualify for both Medicare and the Oregon Health Plan, live in a care facility, or have certain chronic conditions.
How to Choose Between Insurers
- 1
Start with your doctors and hospital. Networks differ more than anything else, and this year they moved.
- 2
Check your prescriptions on each plan’s 2027 drug list.
- 3
Compare the out-of-pocket max, not just the premium.
- 4
Look at the plan type. PPOs usually let you go out of network for more money. HMOs usually don’t.
- 5
Glance at the star rating as a tiebreaker, not a verdict.
